Do you get hungry from eating fruit?

I've always been told to eat a fruit if I'm hungry and food isn't too far away - and it's always made me hungrier! Now I know why - apparently the fructose (fruit sugar) makes the body produce a hormone called ghrelin, which stimulates the apetite...

So, the bottom line is: If your kids are hungry, dinner is half an hour away, and you want them to eat more (like my H, who is extremely picky with her food) - give them an orange or any other sweet fruit... If you don't want to eat much yourself (such as me, who still battle the pregnancy kilos) - eat something without sugar before dinner!

good to know. Now I don't feel so bad telling them to have a banana to hold them off until dinner.
